Me, Myself, and Him by E.N. Joy { A Book Review}

Last week I had the opportunity to slow down, breathe, and get back to the joy of reading a book just for entertainment purposes. As I was preparing to pack for the car ride headed to enjoy a much needed vacation, I decided to pack a small book and Me, Myself, and Him by E.N. Joy was the lucky unread book that made the trip. Of course, there are many books on my shelf that are silently screaming to be read and let’s not even mention the many e-books piled away in my Kindle.

Do you remember what it was like to be a newbie  Christian wanting to live for Christ, but struggling to walk away from things you had come to love about your old way of life?  Well, that’s exactly where Locksie’s, who never thought she would find herself going to church again, finds herself. How does she reconcile her newfound love for God with her love for her live-in boyfriend, Dawson? Is it possible for the two to coexist?

Readers are also introduced to other characters who are at different stages in their walk with Christ.  Ms Joy does a great job of presenting a realistic view of the daily struggles individuals face as they attempt to live lives governed by their faith.

The author tackles dealing with the aftermath of infidelity in a marriage, maintaining purity as a Christian single, being tempted to get even, and losing confidence in God when things do not go as we expect.

I enjoyed reading this book, although I wished the author would have chosen a different name for Locksie’s friend who struggled with infertility other than Hannah. It seemed too close to the Biblical story of Hannah and the lady’s husband’s name was even similar. However, I did appreciate the author leaving some loose ends. As we all know in this life everything does not get neatly wrapped up  and bow-tied as we would like.

Here’s the opening lines of the book:

“God ain’t into threesomes!” Mary scolded her niece. Locksie looked up at her in shock. “ Aunt Mary, “ She blushed. “Get your mind out the gutter girl”.

I thought this was my first book by Ms Joy I had read but when looking up her information, I discovered I had read another one her books entitled She Who Finds a Husband.
